Gear List
- The Kayak: a red polyethylene Sealution, made by Wilderness Systems of North Carolina. Sealed bulkheads, hatches, decklines, no rudder. Lots of dents and scratches underneath.
-
-
- Paddle: wooden one-piece from Cricket Paddles in Colorado (how can they make such a great ocean paddle in landlocked Colorado?) and a Werner Little Dipper for backup (I never used it).
-
-
- Life Jacket (with whistle, flares, strobe light), Spray Skirt, Paddling Jacket, Wet Suit (which I only wore two days), Paddle Float, Bilge Pump, Poagies (which keep hands dry and warm on the paddle, never used 'em), Deck Compass, NOAA Charts and a Chart Case, Weather Radio, First Aid Kit, Tow Rope, Water Bottle
-
- Food: Breakfasts were oatmeal with lots of butter and brown sugar, coffee. Lunch was pita bread with cheddar cheese. Dinner was Lipton dried rice dishes (Spanish, Mushroom, Butter and Herb) doctored with cheddar and spices. Dessert was granola bars (which I will no longer take on trips, they cause indigestion and are not really satisfying. I'm thinking Oreos or brownies next time).
-
- Water: I took 2.5 gallons, then bought another two gallons in Stonington. I got home with almost none left. So it was almost a gallon a day.
-
- Tent (L.L. Bean 2-person dome, not exactly the best but reasonably priced and a comfortable size). Sleeping bag and pad
-
- Cookstove and cooking kit, candle lantern, matches, butane lighter
-
- Cameras: Olympus with 24 and 85mm lenses, Fuji 6X9cm, not enough film. The 35mm stuff went into a small drybag that I kept between my knees, ready to shoot while paddling.
-
- Flashlight, Shakespeare's sonnets, warm camp clothes, soap, toothbrush and paste, Maine Island Trail Guidebook
-
- Nalgene Poop Bucket for carting out all my solid human waste in accordance with low-impact rules
